News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High Desert Chorale, under the leadership of Irene Liden, is coming back to life for the sixth season. This recent email from Irene went out to all the past chorale members and other musicians:
"Have I given you all enough time off?"
"I am ready to begin, if you are."
"First rehearsal will be September 8 at the Lutheran Church - 6:30 p.m."
"Bring all your friends and we will decide when a pot-luck get-together will be."
That's a lot of good news in four short paragraphs for everyone in Sisters, plus members and would-be members of the High Desert Chorale. Also starting up are the Renaissance Sister recorder group and the Sisters Bell Choir, helped along by Lola Knox.
Everyone in the chorale is chomping at the bit to get singing again. You can't help but note how the members feel when they pull up to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Everyone's filled with jittery expectations, especially for the first rehearsal, looking forward to the new music, knowing some of it will be difficult, but also knowing it will be fun to sing and share together.
Then there's the potluck. That's always a lot of fun and a lot of good eating, wonderful companionship and anticipation for the coming season.
Liden and Knox are seeking new members of all voice categories and instruments - and there are no auditions necessary.
Last season, the chorale numbered 65 voices, a full bell choir and several recorder musicians from throughout Sisters Country. The Chorale will be preparing for its annual Christmas concert, and would like to include a children's choir this season. The Christmas concert this year will include selections of traditional, contemporary, and spiritual music, plus joyous noels and also the customary audience sing-a-long.
The children's choir will be for the sweet voices of kindergarten through second grade. Anyone interested in the children's choir or bell and recorder choirs is invited to call Knox at 541-390-4615 or email sisterschildrens
