School board getting set for new year

On Wednesday night the Sisters School Board began the 2014-2015 school year by reelecting Don Hedrick as board chair. Andrew Gorayeb was elected as vice chair.

A number of committee assignments were also made. The selection of officers was delayed from last month to allow for the selection of Kay Grady's replacement on the board. The new board member, Stephen King, will be sworn in at the September board meeting.

Sisters High School and Sisters Middle School will retain their principals, Joe Hosang and Marshall Jackson respectively. Becky Stoughton will be principal at Sisters Elementary School. Stoughton joined the Sisters School District last year as special programs director. Former Sisters Middle School and Sisters Elementary School principal Mark Stewart will be returning to Sisters High School as a student management specialist.

The board also approved the hire of three new teachers at Sisters Elementary School. Katie Parsons and Mylee Card will be teaching grades 3 and 4. Marissa Lampert will be teaching kindergarten. Parsons taught the 3/4 class last year as a temporary teacher.

The teachers were selected from over 50 applicants by a panel that included eight teachers.

The board also approved the language document for the November $14.5 million bond election.
