Sisters honors departed servicemen

Members of Sisters Country servicemen were present at the Sisters Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Veterans Memorial Stone in Village Green Park last Saturday at noon to take part in placing their departed veterans' names on the stone.

The names of Harold Mulligan - U.S. Navy; Stuart Marshall - U.S. Army; Robert "Bob" Baker - U.S. Marine Corps; Carl Newport - U.S. Air Force; and William Henry Duehren, Jr. - U.S. Army were placed on the memorial stone by Lance Trowbridge, Commander of American Legion Post 86.

Three generations of the Newport family were there to honor husband, father and grandfather Carl Newport, and view photographs of his time and adventures during World War II. Harold Mulligan, who served in the U.S. Navy, was a Pearl Harbor veteran.

Saturday's observance followed a similar event on Thursday, where the names of Donald Esterman - U.S. Air Force; Lee Farm - U.S. Army; Howard Trowbridge - U.S. Army Air Corps; and John Loring - U.S. Army were affixed to the stone.

The two memorial stones were donated to Sisters veterans organizations by the Cyrus family.

The memorial is designed to honor all Sisters Country veterans on their passing.
