News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Campaign season is underway

The campaign season for the November election is off and running, with several local issues that will engage the interest of Sisters Country: The composition of the city council; a bond measure for the school district; and a referendum on medical marijuana facilities.

In addition, there is a county commission race, a statewide U.S. Senate race and a variety of statewide initiatives.

Letters to the Editor on any of these subjects are welcome.

The Nugget will run letters on a space-available basis, with local issues taking precedence. Some campaigns may seek to formally or informally coordinate a letter-writing campaign. We are leery of letters that sound the same and appear to regurgitate a script. Writers should speak as individuals, and approach a topic from an authentic point of view, not merely repeating talking points. Group letters or those representing an organization must have a representative or representatives as signatories.

If you want to comment on multiple issues, do it in one letter. Word count should be no longer than 300 words.

The page-two guest column space is available at The Nugget's discretion and must be reserved by contacting editor Jim Cornelius at 541-549-9941.

One letter or column per person or group will be accepted.

Speak your mind vigorously but civilly, and participate in shaping the future of the Sisters community.

Jim Cornelius, Editor
