News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws were plagued with penalties and turnovers, resulting in a 39-15 loss at home to Crook County in a non-league match-up on Friday, September 19.
Crook County held a 6-0 lead at the close of the first quarter and accrued 21 additional points in the second quarter to go up 22-7.
Sisters scored their second-quarter touchdown off a pass from Tanner Head to Gibney, out of the backfield for a 65-yard run, and Josh Andrade added the PAT.
The Cowboys forged ahead to a 32-7 lead to close out the third quarter.
Head threw a 45-yard play action pass to Tysen Gill for Sisters' final touchdown of the game. The Outlaws scored on a two-point conversion off a three-yard run by Logan Schutte.
Schutte was the Outlaws' leading rusher, rolling up 149 yards on 19 carries. Mitch Gibney added 68 yards on 15 carries. Schutte also led the defense with seven tackles, and Head tallied six.
Schutte said, "We are coming together as a team, but we need to buy into Coach Thorson's system. We've made lots of mistakes these last few weeks, but we are working hard to fix them, and improve as a team."
Coach Gary Thorson told The Nugget that the numerous penalties and turnovers stopped good drives and kept the Outlaws out of the end-zone. Sisters fumbled the ball twice, and both fumbles were recovered by the Cowboys.
"Defensively, we did not ready well, and we had people out of position, which led to big plays for Crook County all night," said Thorson.
"In some areas we took a step forward in the areas of execution on offense, but the penalties really killed us. As a team, our inexperience really hurts us at times, but I think we have a group that once things get ironed out, can and will be very competitive. At times, we look like a very good football team, but when we make the mistakes, we look absolutely atrocious."
Sisters will play at home against Sutherlin on Friday, September 26.
