Chandler is Deschutes rodeo queen

Olivia Chandler, a recent graduate of Sisters High School, has been selected as the 2015 Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo Queen.

There are four categories to be judged in the competition: Application, Horsemanship, Speech and Interview. There are three judges for each category with a total of 12 judge's scores to find the winner. Horsemanship was performed in the Juniper Arena at the fairgrounds, where the contestants rode the AQHA Reining Pattern #7, a queen run-in and a flag run. The speech subject was, "What is your favorite rodeo event and why?" The interviews were held in a side room where the contestant and three judges interact on a more personal level.

Olivia Chandler, the daughter of Bob and Yvette Chandler, will be a freshman at the University of Oregon this fall planning to major in sports business. Chandler was a member of the Sisters High School Equestrian Team, a four-year competitor earning district and state medals to include winning the district and state award for individual High Point Versatility Rider.

Olivia is an accomplished rider in Western, dressage, saddle seat and jumping. She is a wrangler and trail guide at Black Butte Stables, an office assistant at Wood Trade International and in her spare time she enjoys riding her horses and being outdoors. She will receive a $1,000 educational scholarship for tuition and book expenses. This will be given to U of O for her spring term in 2016.

The coronation will be held at the annual fair association dinner and meeting, January 2015.
