News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws shut down Sweet Home 6-0 on Tuesday, October 7, and pushed their league record to 6-0. Sisters has been relentless in their play all season, and have easily handled every league opponent they've faced.
Five minutes into the contest against the Huskies, Cassandra Arruda dribbled down the side and crossed the ball in to Olivia Stewart, who volleyed it in for the score. Olivia Stewart scored again 13 minutes later off an Arruda corner kick and the Outlaws went up 2-0.
Liz Stewart punched in two goals for Sisters within a two-minute period to give the Outlaws a 4-0 lead at the half. Stewart dribbled past three defenders and booted in a great shot from the 18-yard line, and turned right around and scored off a perfectly placed corner kick from Arruda.
Arruda scored both of Sisters' second-half goals. Cassandra dribbled the ball into the box past a few defenders and shot a strong goal past the keeper in the 68th minute, and seven minutes later dribbled past the Sweet Home defenders into the box for the goal.
Coach Audrey Tehan was impressed with Arruda's play.
"Cassandra had an amazing game with three assists and two goals," said Tehan. "She is a determined player who shows great leadership on the field. She is driven to excel and it really pushes the team."
Tehan also made note of Olivia Stewart.
"Olivia is also doing amazing as this is really her first year back playing soccer after having played volleyball her freshman and sophomore years," stated Tehan. "It is really fun to see her improving and being such a strong attacker for the team."
The Outlaws played a great game and were in attack mode the entire time.
Sweet Home had only three shots on goal, all of which were saved by keeper Hannah Ceciliani. Tehan told The Nugget that Ceciliani has not seen much action in goal during league but is doing a great job, is focused the entire game, and is ready to take the team far.
The Outlaws were to play at home against Elmira on Tuesday, October 14. Sisters will play at home against Junction City on Thursday, October 16.
