News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters suffered a hard 47-14 loss to a very physical Falcon squad at Elmira on Friday, October 17.
The Outlaws got off to a bad start, and everything spiraled downward from that point on. Sisters went three-and-out on their first possession, and then had a bad snap that went over the punter's head, which gave the Falcons the ball at the one-yard line.
Elmira scored and went up 7-0. Sisters went three-and-out on their next possession and then gave up a field goal. On the Outlaws' third possession of the night, they turned it over after a long run by Tanner Head.
The Falcons scored again on a long run after a missed-assignment by the Outlaws' defense.
Sisters found themselves down 17-0 at the close of the first quarter.
"Our players had that deer-in-the-headlights look, and we allowed things to snowball on us," said Coach Gary Thorson.
Sisters got their first touchdown in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Logan Schutte. The PAT by Josh Andrade was low and blocked.
Elmira scored 14 points in the quarter, and at the half held the lead at 31-6. The Falcons tacked on 16 points in the third and took a commanding 46-6 advantage.
Sisters' final score came in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard pass from Head to Isaac McKenzie. Connor Gellings ran a sweep around the right side for a two-point conversion.
The Outlaws rushed for over 250 yards but were hurt by poor pass protection and four turnovers.
Schutte was the Outlaws' leading tackler with seven tackles, and Jacob Gurney added five.
Thorson said, "The mental mistakes and turnovers that plagued us are correctable and we just need to flush this game and get ready for Sweet Home. I can't think of a better scenario for this team than to have a chance for a league title on their home field for homecoming. They have shown great character all season long and I have confidence they will bounce back and play much better this next week."
The Outlaws will play at home against Sweet Home on October 24 for the league title.
