Twigs is changing its style

Twigs, located inside Stitchin' Post, is changing its style, shifting its identity.

"We are turning into a fiber arts gallery," explained store manager Jillian Zepeda.

"Fiber arts" encompasses a wide range of media and styles - as long as there's a fiber element. It can be fabric, wools, felting, and it can include everything from weaving to painting to silk-screening.

"Right now I'm doing a drawing on linen," said Zepeda, an artist in her own right. "It has a fiber component."

Twigs will sell all the supplies needed for fiber arts - from wools to acrylic paints, but it will also serve as a literal gallery, displaying art selected by Zepeda and Jean and Valori Wells.

"It'll be on consignment, just like a normal art gallery," Zepeda said. "I'm getting moveable walls built so I can hang more art."

The gallery and supplies complement the classes in fiber arts offered through the adjoining Stitchin' Post.

While Twigs will continue to have a selection of housewares that complement the art, the focus is clearly on the art itself. It's a way of keeping the store fresh and engaged with the arts community that has evolved in Sisters.

"We need to reinvent ourselves and move forward and try new things," Zepeda said.

Twigs is located at 311 W. Cascade Ave. For more information call 541-549-6061.
