News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team finished with two shutouts last week to wrap up league play with a 10-0 record.
Sisters defeated Cottage Grove (CG) 5-0 at home on Tuesday, October 21, and on the road two days later beat the Sutherlin Bulldogs 5-0.
Sisters honored their 14 seniors at home in Tuesday's match-up against CG. The seniors played with great energy and kept it going the entire game in front of an excited home crowd.
Josiah Jones followed a Jonathan Luz shot to score his first goal in his first varsity game in the ninth minute of play to get the Outlaws started. Jones placed it nicely to the left side of the net from 10 yards out.
Justin Harrer separated the defense and made a lefty cross to the right side and Jadon Bachtold headed it in for the goal in the 31st minute. Just one minute later Colton Mannhalter was assisted by Bachtold on an incredible 40-yard shot with his left foot. At the half the Outlaws were on top 3-0.
Mannhalter kept the scoring going in the second half. Colton knocked in a 35-yard shot to the right side off a Connor Schaab assist.
Sisters' final goal came in the 64th minute. Gabe Willitts passed a through-ball to Schaab, who broke away from the defense and scored on a one-on-one with the keeper. The Outlaws continued to play hard until the final whistle blew.
"Our defense dominated play as usual, and both Ben Larson and Justin Harrer had multiple shots that barely missed hitting the crossbar from way out," said Coach Rob Jensen. "Ethan and Andrew Stengel played with great enthusiasm and really put some pressure on the Cottage Grove defense. Jonathan Luz and Josiah Jones also combo'd-up to cause some chaos up top. It was really nice to see everyone play with great chemistry no matter what combination of guys we put in."
Two days later, Sisters shut down the Bulldogs. It was a slow first half in the mud for both teams.
Malachy Sundstrom headed the ball to Schaab, who placed the ball into the bottom-right corner 12 minutes into the contest. Minam Cravens passed a great ball to Andreas Pederson, who booted the ball into the lower left for the goal at the 26-minute mark. At the half the Outlaws held a 2-0 advantage.
The Outlaws figured out how to play in the mud and moved the ball much quicker in the second half.
Harrer scored in the 53rd minute. Justin chest-trapped a defensive clearance by the Bulldogs and then vollied it off the bounce from 40 yards just over the keeper and below the crossbar.
Sisters scored three minutes later when Mannhalter played a ball to Pederson through the defense on the right side. Andreas finished to the right and punched the ball past the keeper for the goal.
Cravens wrapped up Sisters' scoring effort in the 60th minute. Schaab passed it up the middle to Minam, who placed it to the right of the keeper for the score.
