Sisters student is High Desert Hero

Madison Boettner has been named The Center Foundation's (TCF) High Desert Hero for the month of November.

Boettner is a senior at Sisters High School where she holds a 4.25 weighted GPA. Madison has been her class president her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She is the yearbook editor, a three-sport varsity athlete, president of the math club, and participates in congress for future physicians and scientists.

Boettner participates in many volunteer activities, including Sisters Folk Festival, Top Soccer Program, Heaven Can Wait, Sisters Trails Alliance, Bend Parks and Recreation, and is a math tutor and chemistry intern.

Morgan Davis, Madison's academic advisor, states "Rarely have I encountered a student who is so capable of balancing academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities, while still finding time to contribute to the community through service projects. She has had a highly successful academic career at Sisters High School, lettered as a three-sport athlete since her freshman year, is a positive leader within our student body, and her genuine care for others has led her to a life filled with community service."

Each month TCF accepts nominations for outstanding high school seniors who maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA, display leadership in school activities, and participate in recognizable community volunteer efforts.

TCF board reviews the nominations and selects a student to receive the monthly honor. High Desert Heroes receive a $250 scholarship sponsored by Bigfoot Beverages, and will be highlighted on myWindow and on Horizon Broadcasting Group radio stations. High Desert Heroes are eligible to compete for the William K. Worrell Scholarship of $5,000. All High Desert Heroes will be acknowledged at the May 6, 2015, scholarship awards dinner.
