News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Working mostly at night, a City of Sisters public works crew, with the help of contracted truck operators, has been removing tons of snow that was plowed up after last week's storm.
Crews hauled "roughly 2,400 yards" of snow to the old ODOT yard at the west end of Sisters as of Thursday morning, according to public works director Paul Bertagna.
"The next big thing is downtown (Cascade Avenue)," Bertagna told The Nugget. "We're working with ODOT to do that. They'll provide the trucks and we'll provide the removal equipment."
Timing on that project is out of the City's hands.
"It's on their schedule," Bertagna said.
There is rain in the forecast through the first part of the weekend, and crews hope to remove as much snow as possible to avoid localized flooding from melting snow piles and ice dams.
"We're trying to find our storm drains now so we can clear them," said public works coordinator Nicole Montalvo.
