News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Dwain G. Newton, age 77, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, November 8 at St. Charles Hospital. His wife and two children were by his side.
Born in Independence, Oregon in 1936 to Maurice Newton and Irene Sparks, Dwain grew up in Portland, Oregon.
He began working at General Motors, married Sharon, and settled in Beaverton, where they had two children.
After 32 years at General Motors, they found their ideal retirement area - Sisters, Oregon - and helped plan and build their dream log-home, where they retired in 1990.
In his retirement Dwain met a builder, a great man with a vision, who taught him how to build log siding, log corners, and peeled logs for structures used throughout Deschutes County.
In truth, those structures helped build Central Oregon one log at a time.
Dwain was proud of that time during which he met some longtime friends.
Dwain fully loved and enjoyed his home and his family, and wouldn't have changed a thing. His family will remember him as a devoted and loving husband and father.
Dwain is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon; daughter Penny and son Darold; sisters Donna Romanello of Florida and Diana Myles of Oregon.
Per his request, a private viewing was held for his immediate family after which, per his request, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Visit the online registry for the family at http://www.niswonger-reynolds.com.
