Firemen rescue trapped passengers

Firefighters from three agencies rescued occupants trapped in their vehicles after a wreck on Highway 20 last week.

On Thursday, November 20, Cloverdale firefighters responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at Highway 20 and Gist Road, with reports of three people trapped in cars.

With assistance from the Sisters-Camp Sherman and Bend Fire departments, firefighters were able to extricate three patients from a Geo Metro that had been rear-ended at the intersection, and transport them to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Firefighters had to remove the roof of the Geo in order to perform the extrication, which resulted in the closure of Highway 20 for approximately 30 minutes.

Roads are slick this time of year, as snow melts and then freezes on road surfaces. Drivers are advised to slow down and allow extra stopping distance, especially during morning and evening hours and in areas of roadways that spend most of the day in the shade.
