Nila Lukens named State Player of the Year

Nila Lukens, a Sisters High School senior, has been voted the Class 4A volleyball player of the year.

The outside hitter has a 32-inch vertical jump, which allows her to hit the ball hard and down. Her powerful hitting helped power the Outlaws to a state championship and earned her Sky-Em Player of the Year honors as well.

"The recognition that Nila has received is well deserved," said assistant coach Brad Bullock. "Her performance both on and off the court is fantastic. Having the awards that she has received while maintaining a better-than-four-point GPA is remarkable. Nila put it all together along with her teammates at the State Tournament and brought more positive recognition to the outstanding Sisters volleyball program."

Assistant coach Cris Converse noted, "Nila worked really hard this year to take her game to the next level. She focused on improving her hitting skill so she was able to hit line shots and over the top of the block. Her development of the various hitting shots really paid off against the tough teams at state. Nila had 306 kills this year, finishing the year hitting .366. Nila was one of our most consistent servers this year, with a serving percentage of 99 percent, 13 percent of those being aces. Nila only made one service error during the entire state playoffs."
