Charles "Chuck" Albert Sellentin was born on December 11, 1922, in the home of his parents, Fred and Minnie (Russell) Sellentin near Belden, Nebraska.
He attended schools in Belden and graduated in 1940. In June of that year he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Taney. He went through a lot of the battles in the South Pacific and later joined the Navy and served during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Stickell 888.
In 1955, he married his wife, Mary Ann, and they lived in Santa Barbara, California, where he worked as an Operating Engineer with Local 12 until he retired. In 1979, they moved to La Pine where they owned and operated the Far-E-Nuf Trailer Park until 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; two sons, Brad of Hawaii, Lance of Sisters; two daughters, Charlotte Peterson of Apple Valley, CA, and Janet Moore-Fierar of Bend; and seven grandsons, Holden and Halston Sellentin, Curtis and David Moore, Alex Fierar, Evan and Brandon Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rick Sellentin of Cathedral City, CA; and sister, Jeanne Graham of Santa Barbara.
Chuck was a charter member of the Free Methodist Church in Santa Barbara, and an active member of the La Pine Christian Center. He liked walking, biking, cross-country skiing, and fishing. He also was a volunteer at La Pine Elementary School, helping children to read. He was president of the Central Oregon Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
The Funeral service was held at La Pine Christian Center with concluding interment at La Pine Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Partners in Care Hospice, 2075 Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701.
