News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Arnold Funai January 24, 1929 to February 13, 2015

Arnold Funai was born in Santa Barbara to Arnold Martin Funai and his wife, Patricia. He was a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, where he met his future wife, Norma.

Arnold was an active outdoorsman who loved to hike and explore nature. While still in college he worked during the summer breaks at Yosemite National Park. After graduating from college, Arnold worked for the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory in Port Hueneme and married Norma on June 14, 1952. They lived for several years in the town of Ventura before moving to the town of Sunnyvale in northern California where he joined the Lockheed Martin Company.

Arnold and Norma have three children, son Robert of Santa Barbara, daughter Carole Miles of Gresham, Oregon, and daughter Amy Moloney of Eureka, CA. They have two grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel Miles.

The Funais retired to the town of Sisters in 1993 and have truly enjoyed living in this natural paradise, exploring the state of Oregon, traveling twice to Europe and once to the Galapagos Islands. A special trip was then in store as they made a southeast Alaskan cruise on a small ship and watched glaciers calve into the Pacific.

Arnold will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his enjoyment of the outdoors. He was a wonderful father who loved to take his children hiking and teach them how to fish.

No services are planned. Remembrances may be made to the Deschutes Land Trust.
