Golden takes Albany position

Sisters schools superintendent Jim Golden has taken the superintendent's position at the Greater Albany School District, effective July 1. The decision of the Albany school board was announced Monday.

"We had an excellent field of 24 candidates and a difficult decision between our two finalists. However, Jim Golden emerged as the right choice to be our next Superintendent," Albany board chair Jerry Boehme said. "He has the qualities, experience and leadership skills identified by our community, staff and students to follow the good work of Maria Delapoer and lead Greater Albany Public Schools into the future."

Sisters School Board chair Don Hedrick told The Nugget that the next step for the district will be to call a special meeting to determine how to proceed with a search for a new superintendent. The district could hire a search firm to conduct the search or handle the search themselves. The goal would be to have a new superintended in place this summer, well before the actual start of school.

In a prepared statement, Golden said, "It has been a privilege for me to serve the Sisters Schools for the past five years as the superintendent... We truly have one of the best school districts in the State of Oregon. Sisters has done a great job of supporting our schools through the Local Option and through the countless other ways including volunteerism, fundraising, and other donations. I am proud of the work we have done together and I will always consider Sisters to be one of my homes."
