Boys lacrosse continues to crush opponents

The boys lacrosse team continued its winning ways this past week. The Outlaws defeated Natzisaga 11-2 at Burns on Wednesday, April 29, and then steam-rolled over Redmond 20-1 the very next day. On Saturday, May 2, the Outlaws edged out West Salem in a final score of 9-8.

Sisters game against the Titans at West Salem on Saturday was a nailbiter. The Outlaws arrived coming off four straight wins, a long van ride, and were somewhat distracted by the prom. As a result, the Outlaws didn't really wake up until the second half.

The Outlaws were held scoreless in the first quarter (4-0) and at the half trailed 6-3.

Sisters added a goal in the third quarter and pulled ahead in the fourth 8-6. West Salem caught the Outlaws and tied the game 8-8 with three minutes left in the contest.

The Outlaws buckled down, and gave every last ounce of effort they had. Chance Halley scored the winning goal with only 20 seconds left on the clock.

Casey Lane finished with 19 ground balls. Tyler Head took over facing-off in the second half, and helped the Outlaws maintain possessions. Joe Jones had two goals, one assist and some amazing rip-shots from outside, that Coach Andrew Gorayeb said even frightened the refs.

Mark Fish recorded three goals and two assists, Chance Halley had two goals, and Chris Burdick and Tyler Head each added a goal. Lane Gladden had two assists and worked hard to keep the Outlaws on the move and in possession of the ball.

Gorayeb stated that the defense "hung tough" and did a great job creating turnovers. Casey Warburton had six saves in the goal.

A day later, the Outlaws went on a scoring frenzy at home against Redmond. Before the start of the game, the team celebrated each of their seniors: Josh Andrade, Josiah Jones, Lane Gladden, Christian Hunt, Casey Lane, Luke Hull, Chris Burdick, Angelo Frack, and Max Kahnt.

Sisters maintained possession over 90 percent of the game, and made certain that every senior on the team that played scored a goal.

"That was amazing to watch," said Coach Andrew Gorayeb. "Every team member on the field worked so hard to make sure that each and every senior was fed the ball at the right place and the right time, so that every one of them could score.

"This game was one of our most fun of this season," said Gorayeb. "Our players controlled every aspect of the game, and showed that they have mastered the game of lacrosse. We saw some outstanding freshmen step up and play well, including Drew Hendricks, whose aggressive defense work produced a number of turnovers that created goals."

Sisters finished the regular season with a record of 9-5. The SALI (Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational) will begin with games on Saturday morning, May 9, and run through Sunday afternoon.

The Outlaws will face the Storm at Summit on Tuesday, May 12, in the first round of the High Desert Lacrosse League Playoffs. A tentative start-time is set for 7 p.m.
