News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
If the weather cooperates, the Sisters Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed burn Tuesday in the 1425 RX project area. The burn unit, 1425 RX Unit 3, is approximately 90 acres and is located approximately three miles north along the 12 and 1425 roads.
The burn will be carried out by local fire management personnel in conjunction with the Central Oregon Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX) program, which includes participants from The Nature Conservancy, Forest Service, BLM, State of Oregon and a member of Grayback Forestry.
The unit has been previously thinned and smoke will be visible from the community of Camp Sherman and possibly Highway 20. Ignition is expected between 11 a.m. and noon and the operation is expected to last two to three hours. Smoke will most likely be visible in the days following the burn and personnel will be assigned to patrol and monitor the burn area.
