Boys lacrosse announces all-league selections

The boys lacrosse team had seven players selected to all-league teams. Lane Gladden and Casey Lane were at the top as first-team picks.

Lane Gladden was a senior captain for the Outlaws and earned first-team midfield. Gladden scored 20 goals for Sisters and tallied 30 assists.

"Lane is a coach's dream," said Coach Andrew Gorayeb. "He can play with a short stick, run the offense, and lead the team. He can shoot with both hands, and is the energizer bunny. He can also pick up a long stick, which he often does, and play impressive defense."

Casey Lane (captain) was named first-team defense. Casey scored four goals and had 300-plus ground balls over the course of league play.

"Casey looks like a model, but he plays a relentless game of take-away-the-ball with his opponents," said Gorayeb. "He literally averages 20 ground balls in a game, and those are all created. The poor kid on the opposing team has the ball and is cradling it, and Casey comes along and takes it from him. He and Lane (Gladden) are cultural cornerstones of our program."

Fish (junior) earned second-team all-league at the attack position. Mark scored 30 goals for the Outlaws and had nine assists.

"For his stature (5 feet 7 inches) he is incredibly strong, finessed, and smooth," said Gorayeb. "He beats defenders that out-weigh him by a third. He is infinitely coach-able and an all-around great young man. He was our only captain who wasn't a senior."

Chance Halley (junior) was also a second-team attack selection. Chance led the team with 33 goals and also had 13 assists during conference play.

Gorayeb said, "Chance is Thor's hammer. Pound-for-pound he is one of our strongest, toughest players. He can score goals through sheer force of will. He's versatile, and I expect great leadership from him next year."

Josiah Jones, Devon Slaughter, and Tyler Head were all honorable mention.

Jones (senior) was recognized at attack, Slaughter (junior) at defense, and Head (sophomore) at midfield. Jones scored 20 goals and tallied eight assists during league.

"Joe Jones is quiet, with a lightning-fast shot," said Gorayeb. "When he shoots, the defensive players jump out of the way. His quiet reserve, I suspect, masks intelligence and compassion and a big heart.

"Devon is huge (6 feet 4 inches and 210 pounds) with zero body fat," stated Gorayeb. "He has muscles on muscles. He's a big, strong, incredible defenseman, and when he goes after the ball we win. He could break me in half over his knee.

"Tyler is also quiet and kind, and he's a go-to guy. He's hard-working, dedicated, and he quietly did a lot of things right this year that helped us get to the second round of the state finals."

Gorayeb told The Nugget that it was a joy and privilege for him to coach this team of Outlaws.

"These young men came together as a band of brothers, and this team was special," said Gorayeb. "It was special, not just because it was my first varsity team to coach on my own, but also because I earned their trust, which they gave willingly. And they never quit."
