William "Bill" Aldrich Battey III, 70, of Sisters, Oregon died at home on Monday, June 8, 2015.
He was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on June 8, 1945 to the late Mia and William Battey. Bill graduated from Swarthmore High School in 1963 and earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Westminster College in 1968. He married Diane Elizabeth Moss shortly thereafter on June 22, 1968.
Bill volunteered to serve his country and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. Bill was awarded a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism while flying combat CH-53 helicopter missions in Vietnam.
After 10 years of military service, Bill transitioned his aviation career flying for Keystone Helicopters, MBB (Messerschmitt Bolkow Blohm), Atlantic Aviation and finally to Boeing, serving as manager of V22 business development in Philadelphia until his retirement. Bill spent his retired life pursuing his love of RV family travel, retired greyhounds, and riding his Harley Davidson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane Battey, of Sisters; their three children Robert Battey (Bend, OR), Jonathan Battey (Maple Valley, WA), and Lieutenant Commander Lydia Battey Haase (Active Duty Navy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
