SPRD buries the beef for car show

Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) will host "Buried Beef & Brew" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, in association with the Glory Daze Annual Car Show hosted by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. Look for the tent at the corner of Main Avenue and Fir Street, one block north of Cascade Avenue.

This is another event in SPRD's Sisters Feasts Series and will feature buried beef - a side of beef cooked overnight on coals in an underground chamber until it reaches a tender and succulent perfection. A meal includes beer-keg beans (made from a secret recipe) and other tasty side dishes. Beverages include Three Creeks Brewing Co. beer as well as a variety of sodas. Meal tickets may be purchased at the event. First come, first served until the food runs out.

The event is sponsored by Bank of the Cascades and Three Creeks Brewing Co. with all proceeds going to SPRD. Liam Hughes, director of SPRD, expressed hope that "it will be a great fundraiser for our youth activities."

It is the intention of SPRD to provide a series of such fun events running from spring through fall each year. The theme is a presentation of delicious, unique, and interesting food popular elsewhere in the country, but not usually found in Central Oregon, along with some form of entertainment. Last year's Feast Series kicked off with a Hawaiian Luau with authentic Hawaiian entertainment. It will be held again this year on August 13, and advance tickets are now available.

More information about the Buried Beef & Brew event will be made available at www.sistersrecreation.com/events or call SPRD at 541-549-2091.
