Richard G. "Rick" Haney was born on October 21, 1951, in Salem to parents Robert J. Haney Sr. and Barbara Jean Robins Haney.
He died on August 28, 2015, at his home in Hermiston at the age of 63 years.
Rick was raised in Sisters, where he participated in junior rodeo and graduated from Redmond High School in 1970. He attended BMCC in Pendleton for a time and then returned to Redmond and started his career as a sheet-metal fabricator. He spent most of his career as a journeyman in Northeast Oregon working for various commercial contractors.
Rick was united in marriage to Jacqueline "Jackie" Prechel on September 13, 2003, in Hermiston.
He retired from Apollo Inc. in 2008 because of his health. He was a member of the National and Northwest Sheet Metal Workers Unions.
Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos, and time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Haney of Hermiston; brother Bob Haney of Redmond; sisters Lorrie Weston of Redmond and Sherrill Eaton of Madras; step-sister "Fran" Payne of Redmond; granddaughter Lindsay; stepchildren Dan Sheets of Eugene, and Terra Sheets of Tualatin; stepgranddaughters Briana, Destany, and Calli; and one great-granddaughter, Carly.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; son Carl Richard Haney; and stepfather "Verne" Shepherd.
A celebration of life gathering was held at his home on September 6.
