News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Kim Slicker of Sisters was born August 11, 1960, in Redwood City, California, and lived in Martinez, California, growing up. She married Roy Slicker of Alamo, California, on September 30, 1995. They brought three beautiful girls into the world living in Alamo and then moved to Sisters in 2006 for a better, more wholesome life for their kids.
Kim was an amazing woman, touching people all over the world. She was very good at horses from a young age. She wrote famous actors like John Wayne and others about her equestrian activities and got letters and pictures back - always the positive activist for her own causes.
She attended Cal Poly for a degree in political science. She worked Club Med teaching people things she didn't initially know - she just checked all the "Do you know how to??" boxes on the application in order to get in free and figured it out later! Part of her act was a pretty mean version of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It," but would never allow her mother to see her perform it!
She became a flight attendant on Eastern Airlines and lived in New York during the elegant days of flying. She sold Hyundais in the Bay Area and did really well at it because she was so smart and beautiful and, it paid her way to Africa! She was a photographic safari guide for different companies in numerous countries in Africa, got written up in Cosmopolitan about it and connected with some really amazing people along the way. She climbed Mt. Kenya and got lost in the process. She's been all over the Far East, Australia, Fuji, Tahiti and other island nations.
Above all, she was always a great friend and supporter of anyone that needed someone to talk to and she always gave her thoughts back straight, supportive and with impeccable common sense.
The most special thing to Kim was her three girls, who have grown to have the same strong and positive character that Kim always displayed. We have lost a very amazing woman in Kim.
She is survived by her husband Roy, daughters Madison, Remington, and Flynn; her mother Diane Ham of Pleasant Hill, CA; sister Jody Ham of Ventura, CA; and brother Eben Ham of Santa Monica, CA. And of course Austin (Geek), our always-smiling Australian shepherd, who misses her dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. at Sisters Community Church at 1300 W. McKenzie Hwy. in Sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to "Help Kim Help Her Kids" by visiting the Kim Slicker Memorial Education Fund at YOUCARING.COM.
