News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Did you know you could now borrow ebooks from the library and read them immediately right on your device with a single click? You simply download OverDrive Read, a browser-based ebook reader that works on most computers, tablets and mobile devices running web browsers with HTML5 support, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer 10 and above.
It's easy to use - and there are no fines for overdue books. Books expire from you device after three weeks if you don't renew. Books are available 24/7 and you can check out up to eight ebooks or digital audio books at a time from your computer, tablet or smart phone.
OverDrive Read has many of the same features as popular reading apps and ebook readers, like the ability to add bookmarks, search for terms, add notes and highlights, look up words, and change the font. It also offers some extra features, like fixed-layout support for graphic-heavy ebooks and professional narration for some titles. As long as you have an active Internet connection, you can return to your ebook any time during your lending period and your place, bookmarks, notes and highlights will be saved.
Once you have OverDrive Read downloaded, tap on the app and enter your library card number and PIN to download content. To help you get started, Sisters Community Librarian Paige Bentley-Flannery offers a free Digital Downloads class once a month at the library to show you how to get started on your own devices -Kindle, Nook, Android, Apple tablets and smart phones.
You'll also learn how to get digital magazines from Zinio where you can get instant access to more than 100 popular magazines for free. There are no checkout limits, you can keep magazines as long as you like, and there are no holds - everything is available all the time. You'll learn how to get free music downloads from Freegal and free videos from Hoopla.
There's a whole new digital world opening up for you right here at Sisters Library.
