Outlaws crush White Buffaloes on gridiron

Sisters came out in full force at home on Friday, September 11, and crushed the Madras White Buffs in a final score of 49-6 for a non-league victory. The win marked Sisters' ninth win over White Buffs in the past 11 years.

The Outlaws scored on all six of their first-half possessions, including 35 points in the second quarter.

Sisters scored twice in the first quarter with touchdowns from Logan Schutte and Chance Halley. Schutte scored first on a punt return and raced down the left sideline for a 55-yard touchdown, and Halley followed with a TD on a 16-yard run. Jadon Bachtold hit both PATs, and at the close of the quarter the Outlaws held a 14-0 lead.

The Outlaws continued to dominate in the second quarter, scored five more touchdowns, and held a commanding 49-0 advantage at the half. Again, Bachtold hit the PATs. Schutte scored on a 47-yard run, Mitch Gibney on a 12-yard run, and Chance Halley on a 46-yard run. Gibney scored again on a 25-yard run, and Gary Jaques closed out the scoring with a five-yard run.

Schutte recorded 68 yards and a score on just three carries - all in the first half. Halley matched Schutte with 68 rushing yards, and scored twice on just three touches, also before the half. Gibney added 51 yards on the ground, and scored two touchdowns on four carries, again all in the first half.

Tanner Head completed all three of his passes, and the offensive line played well all night. Austin Cantwell, Devin Slaughter, Brady Wessel, Jaden Condel, Ty Martin, Rory Petterson and tight-end Tyler Head blocked well and opened up holes all night long.

Sisters played hard-nosed defense throughout the contest, and held Madras to a total of 79 yards.

Coach Gary Thorson said, "Neil Fendall, our defensive coordinator, put together a great defensive plan, and the players executed well."

Ryan Cook led the defense with four tackles and three assists.

Thorson said, "Ryan (Cook) did not play last year, but he has been a big factor on defense so far this year. He has a great football motor, but is sharp mentally, and has picked up our system well."

Devin Slaughter, from his defensive-end spot, also registered several tackles for loss. Bachtold handled the place-kicking duties perfectly, and was seven-for-seven on the night. Bachtold also put several kickoffs in the end-zone. Bachtold is proving to be a major weapon for the Outlaws, and has been a great addition to the squad.

Every player who dressed down was able to get playingtime on the field.

Thorson commented, "We challenged the team to continue to put our focus on our improvements as a team, and not on our opponents, and we responded well. Our opponent was not as talented as the one we faced the week prior, but no question, we executed better all the way across the board. I'm very pleased how we played in all three facets of the game."

Sisters will face a bigger test this week in their road game against the Crook County Cowboys on Friday, September 18. The Cowboys are expected to be a playoff team from their conference this season.
