Marjory Haney October 27, 1924 - November 9, 2015

Marjory Haney, 91, passed away peacefully November 9. She was born October 27 in Seattle, Washington, to Vernon and Gertrude (Wyatt) Gardner.

With a father in the Navy, she lived all over the country, but always returned to the Seattle area, graduating from Garfield High School before starting at Rhodes College in Tennessee, close to where her father was stationed.

She transferred to the University of Washington, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, as well as president of Panhellenic, and graduated with a business and marketing degree.

Marjory had her own sailboat, and was quite an accomplished sailor.

She met the love of her life, Jack, at a fraternity party, and within three months of meeting, they were married! Friends and family said it would never last.

Moving to Yakima for a few years, they started a family, and soon moved back to Mercer Island, where they raised their children. Marjory was active, serving on the library board as well as president of the Rhododendron Society of Washington.

In 1968, they moved to Lake Oswego, and in 1971, bought one of the first lots at Black Butte Ranch. Every weekend they visited and Marjory got to indulge in her favorite pastime: hiking. There was not one untried hike in Central Oregon!

Upon retirement, they moved full-time to Black Butte Ranch, and she volunteered at the library, hiked, and golfed with the "funny girls." Winters were spent in Green Valley, Arizona, where they had a second home.

She dreamed of volunteering at her favorite place, the High Desert Museum, but was afraid they might make her hold a snake.

An accomplished pianist, seamstress, knitter, and gourmet cook, she is most remembered for her sense of humor and "giggle."

Marje and Jack moved to Touchmark in Bend, until Jack preceded her in death in 2012. She spent her last few months back in Sisters at Anna's House, where she was surrounded by family and friends.

Marjory is survived by her children, Rod of Vancouver, Washington, and Jill Haney Neal of Sisters; grandchildren John of Sisters, Brian of Venice Beach, California, and Christy Montermini of Olympia, Washington; great-grandchildren Leo, Abe, Will, Emerson Montermini of Olympia, Washington; Henry Neal, (and soon Gwen) of Sisters; and her sister, Virginia Asher in Los Gatos, California.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Friends of the Sisters Library or the High Desert Museum.

A family memorial is planned in the future.
