Jean Isabella O'Hara April 3, 1924 - December 9, 2015

Jean Isabella O'Hara died peacefully at her daughter's home in Madras, December 9, 2015 at the age of 91.

She was born on April 3, 1924, to Charles and Ivadel Grant in Detroit, Michigan.

After graduating from high school Jean went to work for the Michigan Telephone Co. She met her husband-to-be, Harold O'Hara, in 1941 when he was in the Navy attending Machinist Mate School in Detroit. He was shipped out in March of 1942. When he returned to the United States, they were married on May 19, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan.

When Harold was discharged in December 1945, they moved to Southern California where they had their two daughters, Cathy and Karen.

In 1977, Jean and Harold moved to Sisters to be closer to their daughters and their families.

Jean belonged to the Kiwanis Club and was honored in September 2007 for her many "good works" over the years. She was featured in Kiwanis International Magazine as a woman who "made a difference" to her community. She was secretary and participated in most of the club's fundraising and service projects. For 16 years Jean was a volunteer in the SMART program at Sisters Elementary School.

Jean enjoyed reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and did all kinds of craft projects.

Jean and Harold were married 64 years. They loved to travel; made it to all 50 states, took several cruises and spent eight weeks out of the year at Depoe Bay. After Harold passed away in 2010, she continued to travel with her daughter Karen.

Jean was active with the senior lunch group, Red Hats, and the widows' lunch group. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Jean is survived by daughters Cathy (husband Mike) Downing of Madras and Karen O'Hara of Culver; four grandchildren, Brenda (and John) Rushing, Josh (and Michelle) Bailey, Alison (and Daniel) Badgley, and Angela (and Les) Powell; and five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily Rushing, Austin Powell, and twins Charlie and Sammy Bailey.

There will be a celebration of life for both Harold and Jean (her wishes) in Sisters on April 3. The time and place will be announced in The Nugget at a later date.
