Well said, Craig. You said it best with this line: "We can do a whole lot better. "

I was just writing Katy Yoder another note, thanking her for several thoughts that were gems for me in her latest column ("Living a new way - one day at a time," The Nugget, January 13, page 26).
I am amazed at her courage to be open and encouraged by her positive outlook. I feel that "yes" for life that she has whenever I read her column, or even just have a moment for a shared "hello" in passing.
I appreciate that you, The Nugget, include her perspective regularly.
This is another example of what makes this community special and builds connection.

I awoke about a week ago with a pulmonary embolism in both lungs. I was saved by the action of our great paramedics and also some planning that made it easy to get to me to take me to help.
Here is what I wrote to my friends as a result.
Imagine that you woke this morning very short of breath, realizing something very, very bad was going on.
1. Could you reach your telephone from your bed? Could you autodial 911 even if you couldn't talk?
2. Assuming you get the 911 operator on the phone could you give him or her your address and name.
3. While the operator is working to get help to you, how do they get in your house? Break the door down? Break out a window? Do you want to be in the hospital one or more days with your door or window open?
Suggestion - One option is a keypad on your garage door with an easy-to-remember code. This worked for me.
Suggestion - If you don't want the above options, buy one of those lock boxes from Lowe's or Home Depot that costs about $35. It requires two screws to install and allows you to leave a key inside. This is great both for emergencies and for letting guests into your home if you happen to be away.
Again you will need to have a three or four-digit code to open this box. Place the box in a very obvious position on your door or garage frame. You don't want emergency personnel saying "now where the hell is that box?"
4. I can't say for sure that these measures saved my life, but they sure made things happen a lot faster.
So be smart and plan ahead.

Will the film "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" cause millions of uninformed viewers to finally realize the self-serving corruption demonstrated by this administration in the 2012 election cycle; and supported by the "Obama doting" press?
Although Hillary Clinton's name is not mentioned, her infamous "What difference does it make?!" comment remains reprehensible; and a revealing glimpse of her truecharacter.
The videos of Susan Rice rushing out falsely blaming the attack on an obscure video do not appear either, although mentioned.
For three long years Americans, especially the families of those who lost loved ones, have had to contend with continuous lies, cover-up, and outrage that a tiny band of unbelievably brave Americans was left to fight off a company of al-Qaida-linked terrorists for 13 horrific hours.
Meanwhile the vast land, sea and air resources of the U.S. military were not sent to their rescue by this administration. Where is the accountability? Where is the apology to the affected families? Where was our Commander-in-Chief?
What's even more despicable has been the ongoing lack of integrity demonstrated by the liberal-biased press.
As we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. one can only hope that voters in the 2016 elections will make "content of character" a primary attribute for selection of our next leaders.
