Spring is scholarship season in Sisters

Sisters High School (SHS) seniors are working to complete their scholarship applications by the 5 p.m., April 6 deadline. The local scholarships can be found online at http://www.sistersgro.com. They have been shared with seniors via their high school email and ASPIRE volunteer mentors and are also available in the ASPIRE office at the high school.

Sisters GRO's (Graduate Resource Organization) mission is "To help Sisters High School graduates achieve their educational aspirations, inspiring them to give back by becoming more."

A unique nonprofit in Sisters, the focus of Sisters GRO is solely on the development of financial support for higher education and vocational training for Sisters High School graduates. This year 40 individual scholarships are being offered by generous private donors and philanthropic organizations in the Sisters community. Last year, nearly $148,000 was awarded to 57 deserving recipients.

Three new annual scholarships are being offered this year: Shibui Scholarship ($1,000), SisTech Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship ($8,000), and SisTech Manufacturing Scholarship ($1,000).

Scholarships will be awarded at Senior Celebration where all seniors are recognized on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m. at SHS. If you are family or friend of a Sisters High School senior, encourage them to apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible for.

Sisters GRO notes that now is an excellent time to contribute to one of many scholarships to further the goal of awarding every deserving SHS scholarship applicant. Contact Betsy Leighty-Johnson 541-549-4907 for more information.
