News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Jamie Vohs, secretary of Sisters Little League, was named Volunteer of The Year for District 5 Little League last week.
Oregon District 5 Little League consists of The Dalles, Hood River, John Day, Prineville, Warm Springs, Madras, Redmond, Bend, La Pine and Sisters.
"For our secretary to win this award is a big deal, and it is a very well-deserved award," said Little League board chair Kyle Fischer. "Without a doubt she has been at the center of the growth the past few years of Sisters Little League."
District 5 Administrator Elizabeth Hisatake presented the award at the regular Little League meeting on March 7.
"I'm very humbled by it," said Vohs. "It's very rewarding to know that effort is noticed. I'm very surprised, because I'm just doing what I would normally do."
Sisters Little League will field approximately 150 kids this year. Team announcement night is April 5 at the Sisters Middle School gym, and opening-day ceremonies are set for April 16 at the Sisters Community Church ball fields.
Vohs emphasized that it takes a lot of work from a lot of people to make Little League thrive in Sisters.
"We have a really good group of board members who are committed to improving the program," she said. "I think we're really lucky. There's a lot of effort put into organizing this for the kids each year - and a great team that really enjoys doing it."
