Fire management specialists are tentatively planning a 212-acre burn on Thursday in Camp Sherman.
The burn area is located two miles north of Highway 20 and The Forest Road 12 junction and west of House on the Metolius.
Objectives of this prescribed burn include reducing hazardous fuels in a historically fire-adapted ecosystem, silviculture site preparation, and improving wildlife habitat.
Burning may kick off as early as 10 a.m. Smoke will most likely be visible from some sections of Highway 20, the 14 and 12 roads, and other primary and secondary roads in the area. Operations may last from four to six hours.
Smoke will likely linger in the area in the days following the burn; however, it should not be overly extensive as the burn will be in mostly grass and shrub. Weekend patrols will be active to ensure control lines are secure.
