Sisters gets set to rock on rodeo weekend

Not all of the action on rodeo weekend takes place in the arena. There are plenty of opportunities to kick up your heels after watching the broncs and bulls.

Sisters Saloon is bringing back classic Sisters after-rodeo party action starting Wednesday night with Dry Canyon Stampede playing after Xtreme Bulls. The local outfit led by Kurt Silva will play in the saloon's courtyard, which features a brand-new stage.

For the rest of the weekend, Thursday through Saturday night, that stage at the historic Western Hotel Sisters will be home to the Joe Slick Band, back by popular demand to fill the night with boot-scootin' rockin' country music.

"We are back at Sisters," the band announced on its website. "If you want to go to a rodeo and a heck of a party after hours, this is the weekend you need to get booked right away. A great town, nice people and good rodeo action."

The Thursday "Locals Night" tradition is back with full buy-in from owners Aaron and Ashley Okura, who are determined to make Sisters Saloon an integral part of Sisters' exciting music scene.

At Hardtails Bar & Grill on Thursday, June 9, the popular country duo Love and Theft will perform. The Nashville-based duo are noted singer-songwriter-guitarists, whose résumé already includes a long series of career highlights. Having already established themselves as one of country's hottest young acts with such memorable hits as the No. 1 country smash "Angel Eyes" and the Top 10 hit "Runaway," and their widely acclaimed albums "World Wide Open" and "Love and Theft," the ACM/CMA/CMT-nominated twosome take their music to the next level with their newest album "Whiskey On My Breath."

Doors open at 4 p.m. (no pre-sales); $10 at the door. There will be a meet-and-greet at 7:30 p.m. with the show to follow at 8:30 p.m.

"We are pretty excited to be able to bring this caliber of Nashville and the country world artists here to our little town of Sisters," said Steve Macey of Hardtails.

Rowdy McCarran out of Nashville will be playing nightly at 10 p.m. and there will be a mechanical bull on Friday and Saturday nights.

On Sunday, June 12, Takoda's Restaurant will hold an "After Rodeo" party that features live music with Mark Conklin and Got Whiskey from 4 to 7 p.m. on the patio.
