News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters Outdoor Quilts Show (SOQS) announces sponsors and event details for the 41st annual Quilt Show which will take place Saturday, July 9, with events, workshops and activities during quilt week, July 3-10, 2016.
"Infinite Stitches" is the theme of this year's show and the 2016 poster, created by Sisters artist Kathy Deggendorfer.
The 41st annual event is presented by Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Robert Kaufman Co, Inc. is a converter of quilting fabrics and textiles for retailers and manufacturers. Kaufman Co. is a fabric supplier to many industries, including retail and quilting, home decor, bridal, uniforms, and the apparel industry.
"As a family-run business, we feel drawn to this kind of unique community event," said Ken Kaufman, CEO. "Sisters Quilt Show brings the entire community together like one big family, to celebrate the artistry, heritage, and creativity of fiber arts and quilting. Once again, we are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show."
Additional leadership support has been received from The Roundhouse Foundation.
"Over the past four decades the annual Quilt Show and activities has grown to impact all of Central Oregon, bringing visitors from all 50 states and 27 foreign countries. The significant contributions of Robert Kaufman Fabrics and The Roundhouse Foundation both recognizes the size and scope of our efforts and allows the show to reach new audiences," said Jean Wells Keenan, SOQS chair emeritus and founder.
Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The sales of quilts with the official Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show tag on them helps support the production of the free event. Together with community partners such as the high school athletic teams, services clubs, and other nonprofit organizations, SOQS annually raises funds and donates back an average of $8,000 to the community - money that helps youth athletes, local scholarship funds, and community organizations.
The world's largest outdoor quilt show will display more than 1,200 quilts on Quilt Show Day, Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special exhibit and lecture on Sunday takes place at the FivePine Campus.
From July 1-29, enthusiasts can enjoy a self-guided tour of more than 90 quilts on display inside businesses which sponsor SOQS. Brochures assisting the self-guided tour can be found at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses throughout the month of July.
Quilt Week kicks off on Sunday, July 3, from noon to 4 p.m. with the 13th Annual Fiber Arts Stroll, where 20 artists will demonstrate and exhibit their work in sponsoring businesses.
On Wednesday, July 6, 5:30 p.m SOQS hosts the annual fundraiser featuring the third Men Behind the Quilts Calendar Preview Party and Calendar Quilt Auction, presented by Moda Fabrics. Community-minded men are models in a 12-month 2017 calendar. These men who volunteer their time and donate equipment and expertise to the local community are featured along with gorgeous quilts. Those who attend this ticketed event can purchase their calendar at a discounted rate and have the models autograph it for them.
"We will auction off the gorgeous quilts donated for the calendar. Proceeds from the calendar and the calendar quilt auction help underwrite the cost of producing the world's largest outdoor quilt show," Pilak said.
