News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) is bringing in regional and international coaching this summer for sports camps including UK Soccer, British basketball, and lacrosse camp. The coaching for each of these programs draws from a wealth of coaching experience.
SPRD works with UK Soccer to bring two soccer camps to the Sisters community in June and August. UK Soccer fields coaches that travel the West Coast during the spring, summer, and fall bringing soccer education to communities. At the younger ages, the focus is on developing players' coordination and building age-appropriate skills for attacking and defending. As kids age through the program, players are provided with sessions that help the athletes make better in-game decisions.
Coach Stephen Pearl and his British basketball team are also making their way back to Sisters this August. Coach Pearl won an additional junior national team title this past winter bringing his total national titles to nine. In addition to Coach Pearl's national titles, many of his former players have gone on to play D1 and D2 NCAA basketball. Coach Pearl's team will be assisting the camp this summer providing Sisters youth a unique cross-cultural learning experience. The camp is open for grades one through eight.
True Idaho Lacrosse is another summer camp where Sisters kids will benefit from talented coaching. True Idaho is bringing coaches who played D1 lacrosse and run youth lacrosse camps in Boise during the summer. This camp will have both men and women coaches to go over the particulars of each sport. Drills focused on proper passing, shooting and ground ball fundamentals, as well as clearing, riding, fast-breaks, extra-man offense, and man-down defense. Players will also participate in games and scrimmages.
Kelly Crowther, program coordinator at SPRD, is excited these camps are coming to Sisters
"It is unique that a town of our size is able to host such high-level coaching from across the region and internationally," he said. "The young athletes of our town get an exceptional opportunity with soccer, basketball and lacrosse to broaden their sports education by coming to these camps. It makes our athletic programs much stronger for the regular season."
