News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws kicked off their season with a 2-0 win over Madras at home on Tuesday, August 30, in an endowment game. Two days later, they lost 2-1 on the road to Molalla.
Malachy Sundstrom got the Outlaws on the scoreboard in Tuesday's game against the White Buffs. Sundstrom received a ball behind the defense from Keaton Green and took a big touch past the keeper and tapped in a breakaway goal.
Sundstrom scored again, when he crossed a ball from the right side, and it deflected off a defender for the score. The lead held until the whistle blew and Sisters walked off the field with the win.
Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that the Outlaws defense played solid throughout the contest. Minam Cravens, Keegan Greaney and Anson Ricker shut down the Madras offense and every bench player that took the field played well. And, as was expected, Sundstrom was a handful for the opposing team.
Sisters lost 2-1 at Molalla on Thursday.
The Indians scored in the second minute to jump to a quick lead. Sisters equalized the score early in the second half when Sundstrom was fouled inside the 18. Cravens converted on the penalty kick to make it a 1-1 game.
Molalla scored on a cross late in the second half and tallied the victory.
Jensen said, "We showed improvement all over the field, but we just couldn't put it in the net. We're still adapting to a change in our system of play, and are still forming chemistry with the new squad. The bench players provided some great energy and depth."
The Outlaws will play at Summit on Thursday, September 8.
