Sisters Movie House to help horses find homes

Sisters Movie House is showing the film "Harry and Snowman" starting October 21 - and they'll be taking donations for an equine charity as well.

"Harry and Snowman" tells the heart-warming story of Dutch immigrant Harry deLeyer who journeyed to the United States after World War II and developed a transformative relationship with a broken-down Amish plow horse he rescued off a slaughter truck bound for the glue factory.

Harry paid $80 for the horse and named him Snowman. In less than two years, Harry and Snowman went on to win the triple crown of show-jumping, beating the nation's blue-bloods. They were famous for their day and traveled around the world together. Their chance meeting at a Pennsylvania horse auction saved them both and crafted a friendship that lasted a lifetime.

In the film, 86-year-old Harry tells their Cinderella love story firsthand, as he continues to train on today's show-jumping circuit.

Sisters Movie House will take donations for The Snowman Rescue Fund during the film's run. The Snowman Rescue Fund supports Omega Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation Center, which gives other slaughter-bound horses the same chance that Snowman had to become a part of a loving family.

Omega has placed over 1,200 horses since its foundation in 1997, and rescues slaughter-bound horses from the New Holland Auction, the same auction where Harry deLeyer rescued Snowman in 1956. Omega saves, rehabilitates, re-trains and prepares horses for adoption into new homes. For more information visit www.harryandsnowman.com/actioncampaign.
