Sisters set for Halloween festivities

There's a lot of action in Sisters for ghouls and goblins of all ages and persuasions.

Spooks, goblins, and kids are invited to a howling good time at the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 31. They will play games and - if they dare - venture into the haunted maze at the annual Halloween event. There will be refreshments, prizes, and candy for all the trick-or-treaters. For more information call 541-549-0771.

The Halloween Parade through downtown, sponsored by Sisters Rotary and the Sisters Library, leaves from Fir Street Park at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 31. Superheroes, princesses, ghosts and more (to age 10) should be in costume, accompanied by their parent or caregiver, with completed registration form (available in advance at the Sisters Library or Sisters Elementary School). A donation of a non-perishable item for the Sisters Food Bank is requested.

On Saturday, October 29, children to age 11 are invited to the Sisters Library for a Pumpkin Party with stories, songs, painting and crafts. Parents or caregivers must attend and are encouraged to participate. For more information call the library at 541-312-1072.

Sisters will get seriously musical over the weekend.

The action kicks off on Friday the 28th with The Belfry's annual Halloween Extravaganza with David Jacobs-Strain and the Crunk Mountain Boys. Pub opens one hour before the show, which starts at 8 p.m.

David Jacobs-Strain is a fierce slide-guitar player and song poet from Oregon. He has performed several times at the Sisters Folk Festival and makes Sisters a regular tour stop.

He's known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon; his live show moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock-and-roll. It's a range that ties Jacobs-Strain to his own generation and to guitar-slinger troubadours like Robert Johnson and Jackson Browne. He will be joined by the always-sassy Crunk Mountain Boys who keep the crowds dancing and begging for more.

Central Oregon's self-appointed "Rock And Roll Border Patrol," The Substitutes, will play a Halloween party at Hardtails Bar & Grill on Saturday, October 29, starting at

8 p.m. The Substitutes have been defending the right to rock since 1996. Rock-and-roll is what they do. It is all they do. This means you are always guaranteed to receive an undiluted dose of 100% organic, USDA Prime, gluten-free, range-fed rock-and-roll; with no unpleasant side effects or

aftertaste.

Bend electric blues artist Tommy Hogan will play at Sisters Saloon on Saturday, October 29, starting at 9 p.m.

Hogan is a talented and thrilling guitarist, booming, soulful, bluesy vocalist, a prolific national and international award winning songwriter whose body and soul exudes raw and authentic, talent and heart-felt soul, with an electrifying and captivating live performances that has built legions of fans everywhere he performs, delivering his original powerhouse display of authentic and award-winning music of rockin', soulful blues, funk with country and Americana roots music in a stage-burning performance.
