News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Good Time Travelers will perform their original music at The Barn on Thursday, December 15. Local musicians Brad Tisdel and Brent Alan will open the show.
The duo of Pete Kartsounes and Michael Kirkpatrick come together as The Good Time Travelers. The duo pairs a high voice, smoky and soulful, with a low voice, rich with bravado.
United by a passion for performing, this songwriting and pickin' duo presents original songs about "the journey."
It's a simple endeavor: a guitar, a mandolin and two microphones - traveling light, this band fills up your heart, but barely fills a Subaru.
The musicians have been leading bands around the West for some time and found each other at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado.
At their first campground session, it became clear to all who witnessed the magic of these two troubadours that this was more than just another Town Park jam.
In fact, Michael won the prestigious Telluride Troubadour Competition in 2014 and Pete had taken an honorable first runner-up in 2011 and 2013.
Pete and Michael began co-writing in the summer of 2014, focusing on the alchemy of their unique voices and instrumental styles.
The highly acclaimed debut album is now out and available online and at the shows.
"Pete and Michael came to the Sisters Folk Festival and the songwriting academy in 2016, and everyone shared in the joy of their music," said Brad Tisdel. "They write from an intimate, spiritual place, and both are excellent musicians. The duo seems to bring out the best in their talents, and they really wanted to play The Barn venue after recording video cuts in the 100-year-old space."
The duo of Brad Tisdel and Brent Alan will open the show. Local musicians for the past 20 years, they share a common love for both Americana/Bluegrass music, and mellow tunes that are heartfelt and reach deep into human emotion and experience. Tisdel was fortunate to have Brent add vocal harmonies and multi-instrumental talents on his 2007 release "On Your Way." Brent Alan has performed for over three decades in various bands, including Brent Alan and his Funky Friends, Dennis McGregor and the Spoilers, and Low Hanging Fruit with Tisdel.
The show starts at 7 p.m. and the sliding scale donation is $15-$20 dollars at the door. The Barn is located at 68467 Three Creek Rd. and doors open at 6 p.m. For more information call 541-408-0200.
