News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
"The Nutcracker" is a firm family favorite of the season. Now, for the first time, audiences in Central Oregon can enjoy it as performed live by England's Royal Ballet when Sisters Movie House brings it to the big screen for two performances on Sunday, December 18 and Monday, December 19.
The two programs will show at 2 p.m. on December 18 and at 6 p.m. on December 19, and is another presentation exclusive to Sisters Movie House. Tickets for all ages are priced at $12.50 and are on sale now via www.sistersmoviehouse.com.
As perennial fans already know, The Nutcracker features a Christmas tree that magically grows, a battle between toy soldiers and an army of mice led by the Mouse King, and of course, Tchaikovsky's mesmerizing score. This production by the Royal Ballet was first seen in 1984 and is the work of the now 90-years-young Peter Wright, with the famous role of the Sugar Plum Fairy danced by Royal Ballet Principal Lauren Cuthbertson joined by her prince, principal dancer Federico Bonelli. It was captured as a live performance on December 8, and features acclaimed former dancer Darcey Bussell as host.
"This is yet another coup for us at Sisters Movie House," said Drew Kaza, managing partner of Quoin Media & Entertainment, which owns the movie theater. "Simply put, we couldn't be more thrilled to present this world-class ensemble in one of the world's most beloved - and iconic - holiday cultural events. We think this is a special treat that music - and dance - lovers from all over Central Oregon will come to treasure with us.
"You could say this is our way of saying 'Merry Christmas' to all of the cultural fans in the area."
