People's Choice selections made

Voting for this year's People's Choice Awards at the 12th Annual Friends of the Sisters Library Art Exhibit reception last Friday was extremely close, with only a few votes separating six art pieces.

Greg Waddell's photograph, titled "Between the Sun and the Moon," was shot on the beach at Bandon, Oregon, when both the sun and the Super Moon were in the sky. The photograph is mounted on acrylic instead of metal, a recent popular method for finishing a photograph.

Conrad Weiler's canvas-wrapped snowy image of ponderosa pines titled "Forest Home," was shot in Camp Sherman.

Four pieces all received the same number of votes. The artists and their works included: Chuck Chamberlain, "First Snow," acrylic painting; Jennifer Hartwig, "Raptor," scratchboard; Bruce Mason, "Nebaj Market Lady," photograph; and Carolyn Platt, "Water Music Legato," monoprint.

Guests at the reception enjoyed complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres as they perused the high quality art by Sisters artists covering the walls of the Sisters library. Music was provided by the Central Oregon Recorder Consort.

Zoe Schumacher, supervisor of the Sisters library, is very pleased to host the annual art exhibit and reception at the library.

"The library is about building community, and what better place to have the exhibit and reception than at the library," she said.

Zeta Seiple, chairperson of the FOSL Art Committee that organizes the exhibit and reception every year, mentioned the impact of the weather on attendance.

"I was very pleased with the number of people attending, especially considering the cold weather and icy sidewalks and parking lots." She went on to say, "I want to thank the artists for contributing so much wonderful art and the public for turning out to support them and vote for their favorite pieces."

This year's silent auction, containing additional pieces donated by the artists, helped raise funds to support programs at the library. Artists also donate 10 percent of any sales proceeds if their art sells during the two-month exhibition.

The exhibit continues until February 24 throughout the library.
