To the Editor:

My husband, Michael Hooey, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident May 28 on Indian Ford Road in Sisters. He fractured both his femurs - one compound - fractured his neck and pelvis, and required 10 units of blood.

It is because of the first responders' quick arrival and their split-second decisions, as well as the work of the trauma team at St. Charles Medical Center, that saved his life that morning.

My husband, and our family, would like to thank all of you. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Our community is truly blessed to have that level of emergency care here when needed. As we continue to piece together the events of that morning, we ask if anyone saw or heard anything relating to the accident would you please contact us via email at [email protected]

Last night I attended the Sisters Dance Academy Spring dance recital. It was amazing. The choreography was creative and really showed off their talent. The costumes were so creative and colorful. I went to see high school students, but was treated to age 4 on up. Lonnie Liddell and the rest of the staff did a fine job. I highly recommend going to her next recital. I know

I will.

Before the show Ms. Liddell asked parents to please not take pictures during the performance. She told us all that there would be a DVD of the recital available. She explained that the light from cameras and cell phones may interfere with the filming. She was very clear. The only hiccup for me at this recital was a parent who, using her cell phone filmed her daughter every time she came on stage. She sat in front of me. It took some of the ambience away from my experience. She also, on occasion, had that bright light in

her lap.

Please, audience, be respectful of the audience. Put your cell phone away and just enjoy the young boys and girls on stage. Buy the DVD!

Regarding the Looking Outward column by Dan Glode on climate change (The Nugget, June 14, page 17), he needs to get his facts straight.

A quick Google search reveals the U.S.A. is NOT the biggest carbon producer! China produces 8,175.31 metric tons per year, compared to 5,490.63 metric tons for the U.S.A. Russia and India are next with approximately 1,750 metric tons each. Also, take a look at the direction that each country is trending.

Sisters High School was a very busy place Saturday! With a basketball tournament, Sisters Dance Academy's spring recital (now with an early matinee performance), and Crest the Cascades participants filling the west parking lot, there were large quantities of people - many children - streaming

through.

Amidst all this, a person strolled in with a dog and tethered it to a bench right on the path, then proceeded into the building. My family and others were picnicking at the tables nearby. Less than 15 minutes had passed before an elementary-age child slowly rolled by on a skateboard and startled the dog. The dog reacted with growling and thrashing, breaking free (appeared he was only held in place by a breakaway collar). He proceeded to leave amongst an energetic basketball team now gathered outside, multiple families picnicking at the tables, and children flowing in from all directions in colorful

costumes.

It must have been terrifying for this dog to be in a strange place, surrounded by strange sights and much commotion, without the comfort of his owner on the other end of his leash!

A bystander was able to catch the dog and return him to his unfortunate predicament.

The young skateboarder was strongly reminded (both by the growling dog and his parent) on the reasons to avoid skateboarding where other people or animals may be present.

Dog owners, when in public, please respect your dog and the people who share these spaces.

The City of Sisters would like to invite you to our Open House Barbecue this Thursday, June 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The parking lot at City Hall will transpire into a creative, educational, and fun event. Entertainment will be by The Anvil Blasters, with a historical slide show and barbecue. It is the perfect opportunity for the residents and friends of Sisters Country to meet their City Council, staff and new City Manager.

City Council and staff are here to serve you. We are looking forward to meeting you at this very special event!

A special thank-you for all the preparation and hard work by City staff to make this possible.
