News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Local crafter Jackie Erickson is offering a unique way to commemorate the total eclipse that will occur on August 21 - with a fabric postcard.
She's currently offering a free class (you must provide your materials) on how to craft a fabric postcard depicting Mt. Jefferson and the Metolius River under an eclipsed sun. The Camp Sherman Post Office has offered to hand-cancel the postcards on August 21, the day of the eclipse.
Classes are held in the Sisters Chamber-Maida Bailey Building, 291 E. Main Ave. on Mondays, noon to 2 p.m., up to but not including the Monday, of the eclipse. Erickson will also offer classes on Tuesday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Creek Lodge in Camp Sherman.
"I just wanted to celebrate the eclipse," Erickson said.
Erickson said that you don't have to be "crafty" to create the postcard - "you just have to be able to cut with scissors."
A complete list of required materials is available at www.lakecreeklodge.com/upcoming-events. The class is free, but you will need to sign up with your name and contact number. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent.
