News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Judith Carol Ann Fogo January 10, 1943 - March 24, 2017

Judith Carol Ann Fogo, 74, of Sisters, died March 24, 2017.

Beloved mom, gram, sister and friend, Judy passed away on March 24, 2017.

Judy was born to the late Jack Merritt and late Emily Elizabeth Hanson on January 10, 1943 in Fremantle, Western Australia. Late in 1943 Jack moved his wife and young daughter to Oregon. Upon arrival, they lived with Jack's parents at their Clackamas-area farm while he continued his naval service abroad. Judy's brother, the late John Charles Hanson, was born in 1945.

Judy graduated from Tigard High School in 1961, and earned for her associate's degree at Multnomah College, graduating in June of 1963. Later that same month she married her high school sweetheart, the late James Ellsworth Fogo. They had two daughters together, Elizabeth Ann (Lisa) and Misty Lynn. Judy spent most of her life in the Portland area, with the exception of five years the family spent in Florida. Her husband, Jim, passed away in 2002. Judy retired in 2010 and then moved to Sisters in 2011. The six years Judy spent in Sisters tending her flowers, enjoying the sunshine and watching her younger grandchildren grow were some of her happiest.

Judy will be long remembered for her warmth, compassion and friendly nature. She would go out of her way to help others and was always there to lend a supportive hand to her daughters and grandchildren. Judy had a special affection for Dobermans, who were her constant companions over the last 40 years. She enjoyed bowling, collecting shells on Sanibel Island, spending time with her family and planting beautiful flowering pots for everyone she loved. Her own yard was a bonanza of color during the spring and summer months.

Daughters Lisa Fogo and Misty Nicklous; sister Lynell Cooper-Joslin; four grandchildren, Paula Williams, Brianne Fogo, Emma and Sam Nicklous; and one great-grandson survive her. She is also survived by her father, Jack's, wife, Bella Hanson of Virginia, and numerous cousins throughout the United States. Each of us will miss Judy greatly and all the kindness and grace she brought to our lives.

A private interment at Riverview Abbey was held in April. We would like to thank Partners in Care of Bend, and specifically Nurse Chandra for the loving and compassionate care of our mom. Remembrances can be made to Partners in Care, Central Oregon Veterans Outreach or the Humane Society.
