Rider killed in Highway 20 wreck

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Highway 20 west of Sisters last Friday, July 28.

The wreck occurred near Black Butte Ranch, the second fatal accident on this stretch of highway this summer.

Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a passenger vehicle versus a motorcycle on Highway 20 near milepost 93 west of Sisters at about 5 p.m.

According to OSP, preliminary information revealed a 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it drifted across the centerline and into the path of an eastbound Kawasaki motorcycle. The two vehicles collided, ejecting the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, 30-year-old Hillsboro resident Andrew Hensley, died enroute to the hospital. The driver of the Nissan, Walter Bonilla, age 20, of Los Angeles, and his two passengers received minor injuries.

Fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash, OSP reported.

Highway 20 was reduced to one lane for four hours. OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Black Butte Police and Black Butte Ranch Fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
