Richard was born April 19, 1950 in San Diego, California to Lowell & Margot (Goedel) Cozby.
He passed away suddenly surrounded by his care team at North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City on October 4, 2017.
Richard graduated from Sherwood High School in 1968 and in that same year, was selected to play tight end for the National East/West Shriner's football game. He continued his education at South Western Oregon Community College earning his associate's degree in forestry.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, music, and was a longtime fan of the Portland Trail Blazers.
He lived in Sisters for over 30 years working for the United States Forest Service. He later transferred to Wrangell, Alaska for a brief period of time before returning to Sisters to finish out his career. After retirement he settled in Lincoln City.
Left to mourn are his daughter, Jenni, and her husband, Todd Ostenson of Medford; son, Jake Cozby of Bend; brothers, Robert Cozby and wife JoAnn of Grand Ronde, Keith Cozby and wife Kathy of Klamath Falls, Ray Cozby and wife Kim of Newberg, Mike Cozby and wife Christine of Lake Oswego; and Richard's sister, Joni Cozby-Hoag and husband Mark of Bend.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lowell & Margot (Goedel) Cozby.
