News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To be successful this winter, the Sisters Cold Weather Shelter (SCWS) will need continued support from donors, businesses, and organizations (see related story, page 13). In order to meet their $25,000 budget, the SCWS needs to sustain and expand all that was achieved in the first three months of 2017. Due to volunteer efforts and donations of food and supplies, expenses are low, and include wages for two specially trained overnight monitors, supplemental food and supplies, and insurance.
It costs approximately $200 each night the shelter is open, which this year is from November 15 to March 15. Donations can be made - earmarked specifically for SCWS - online at http://www.shepherdshouseministries.org/donate/scws, or a check may be mailed to Shepherd's House Ministries, P.O. Box 5484, Bend, OR 97708. Please indicate on your donation that it is for the Sisters Cold Weather Shelter. Shepherd's House is working with SCWS again this year, acting as their fiscal sponsor and partner. Shepherd's House Ministries is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (EIN#75-3207723). Any gift is tax-deductible as allowed by U.S. law.
Donations of needed items can be dropped off at the Sisters Habitat for Humanity office, upstairs above the Sisters Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store located at 141 W. Main Ave. The office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the weekends donations can be left at Sisters Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store, Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. Be sure to mark the items as donations for SCWS.
