Walter LeRoy Shuey of Sisters passed away at home on October 3, 2017. He was 79. Walt was born in Grant, Nebraska on March 7, 1938. His family moved to Dundee, Oregon in 1947, then settled in Newberg, Oregon. Walt joined the Marines in January 1956, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California until January 1959. While in California, Walt met his future wife, Marleen Darnell, in September 1958, and they were married on July 4, 1959. They stayed in Southern California and had three daughters, then moved to Newberg, Oregon in 1965 where they raised their family.
Walt worked for Adec for 26 years and retired in September 1993. Walt was a member of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Hawghunters Bass Club. His three daughters rode POAs and Walt trailered the ponies to many shows during those years, from Washington to Southern Oregon.
Walt and Marlene built their retirement home in Sisters and moved there in September 1993, after they retired.
Walt was a volunteer for Oregon State Police fish and wildlife. He was marshal at several of the area golf courses and enjoyed golf. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters Michelle Pappas of Bend, Sandy Harding of Newberg, and Kathy Shuey of Portland; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on October 14 at St. Edward the Martyr Catholic Church.
