Girls basketball team holds on for one-point win

The Lady Outlaws defeated the Cowgirls 36-35 at Crook County (CC) on Friday, December 1.

Sisters led by four at 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, and at the half it was still a four-point game at 22-18.

With four seconds left in the contest, CC made a basket and drew a foul on the shot. They made good on the freethrow and narrowed the Outlaws' lead to one, at 36-35. Sisters was able to inbound the ball and hold on for win.

CC outscored the Outlaws 17-14 in the second half, but the Outlaws squeaked by with the victory.

The Outlaws ran multiple defenses throughout the game, both half-court and full-court. They also ran zone and man-to-man offense against the Cowgirls' multiple defenses.

The Outlaws shot 42 percent from the field and were 33 percent from the line. Turnovers did plague Sisters, as they accrued 20 on the night.

Alexa Stewart put up lay-ins and mid-range shots to lead the Outlaws with 19 points. Meaghan Greaney and Gracen Sundstrom added five points each.

Coach Alan VonStein said, "The girls played exceptionally well as a unit, with excellent defense and hustle."

Sisters was to play at home against North Marion in a non-league contest on Tuesday, December 5. The Outlaws will travel to Yamhill-Carlton on Friday, December 8. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
